About

Hi there!

My name is Shelby. This is my blog about rituals. To me, rituals are daily reminders for our intentions. Our intentions can fluctuate daily, by the way. You can read more about that on my Rituals page.

So how did I get here?

I practice yoga daily. That doesn’t mean I get on my mat everyday, though. Yoga is more than just asana, or physical postures. Yoga is breath. It’s awareness. Yoga is kindness, toward self and others. Yoga is love, yoga is life. And life isn’t always smooth sailing. Sometimes it’s rocky, sometimes it’s an entire year of capsizing. Still, we forge ahead onward and upward.

To help endure life, I’ve picked up some rituals along the way. Some of them I try to implement daily, some of them are annual rituals to look forward to. Rituals come in many forms – movement, food, spirit, nature. Food is a big one for me. My ideal way to share space is a 4-hour long dinner. Taking our time, and of course, lots of courses! I’ve learned that nourishing my body essentially nourishes my entire being. So it’s only fitting that I added recipes to my site.

I want to share my adventures with you – the ebb and flow, the daily grind, all the stuff that make me, and you, human.

Paleo Banana Bread

Paleo. Banana Bread. When you have ripe bananas lying around (or you avoid eating bananas all week in order to have ripe bananas) this is the recipe to use them for. If you're like me and you're still trying to keep your 2019 'fitness goals' going strong, this paleo...

GF Banana Bread

If you hate the word moist, you should just forget about ever making the best gluten-free banana bread there ever was, because... it's MOIST AF.  You can't have extra ripe bananas in the house and now use them for this banana bread, or really any banana bread for...

Raspberry-filled Yellow Cupcakes

Can you believe these bad boys are made with maple syrup instead of sugar?  My cousin, Terri, and her husband, Sean, came to visit Cade and I for a week and it just so happened to be Terri's birthday. So, obviously I had to make a cake (in cup form).  When I asked...

Energizing Protein Smoothie

I've always hated smoothies that you can taste the protein powder in. This isn't one of them.  Cade recently got an assistant head coach job at College of Marin (I'm so proud of him, and seriously, proud is an understatement). Since he started, we've gotten to use...

Fun Dip Smoothie Bowl

You MUST remember Fun Dip, right?  Like a lot of 90's kids, I consumed a shit ton of sugar. One of the way in which I did was via a white chalky stick as a vehicle for bright and artificial, sugary goodness. The thought of eating Fun Dip now makes me cringe, but holy...

Homemade Nut Milk – Almond

This recipe will change your life.  If you've never had real almond milk, then you are in for a treat. Who would've thuought that all those expensive, Whole Foods almond milks would be so full of shit? Not me!  I've never liked dairy. I grew up on Soy Milk. Once I...

Homemade Nut Milk – Hemp

If you're new to making your own nut milk, you've started in the right place.  The first time I made nut milk, I tried to make almond milk. It's now my favorite and my go-to, but the first time wasn't as glorious.  For most nut milks, you need a nut milk bag. This...
